Summertime is perfect for enjoying the sun and relaxing with a nice cold drink like a mango summer smoothie.
It has the sweet and satisfying taste of something like a piña colada but with healthy ingredients! This smoothie is customizable as well, so it can be turned into a dessert too.
While the weather is warm, now is the best time to take advantage of it. Even if you don’t live somewhere where it gets sunny, this smoothie can transport you there.
With the number of ingredients this recipe uses, it’s easy to add on some veggies that will blend in with the other flavors– a great way to sneak in healthy snacks for kiddos!
However you decide to incorporate this mango summer smoothie into your day, this recipe is simple to follow.
This post is all about the best drink to have during warm weather: the mango summer smoothie.
There are some flavors that just bring you right back to the beach, or to a pool-side lounge chair no matter when you drink them. This smoothie is one of these drinks.
The original recipe is very simple, but this blog will provide you with other optional add-ins to boost your mango smoothie in different ways.
Want to sneak in some extra greens? We got you covered!
Or perhaps turn this delicious mango smoothie into a mango milkshake? We have something for that too!
However, before we get to that, let’s go over the basic list of contents first.
Mango Summer Smoothie Ingredients:
Frozen Mango-
Just like all of the other smoothie recipes on my blog, some sort of frozen fruit is always included.
The mango takes over as the main flavor of this smoothie, adds a whipped texture, and also keeps it nice and cold.
You may also use fresh mango if you want to do that instead, but you may have to add ice to replace the ‘frozen’ aspect of the frozen mango.
Mango has a ton of health benefits that can improve your physical and mental health! It actually includes over 20 vitamins and minerals, making it a superfood.
It is rich in protective antioxidants and can help you maintain healthy skin and hair. Its other nutrients support your immune system and provide you with plenty of Vitamin A and B6.
Still not convinced? Well, that’s not all!
Mangos are also known to aid in digestion, so they make a great mid-day smoothie or even a dessert for after dinner.
As a fruit with so many great nutritional values, the mango is often referred to as the ‘king of fruits.’
Frozen Pineapple-
Frozen pineapple is what helps make the smoothie taste more tropical and fruity. Without it, the recipe would be too heavy on the mango.
Although, if you are wanting a plain mango smoothie, there will be an option for that as well.
If you decide to add both, make sure that either one or both of these fruits are frozen. Adding ice won’t be able to completely transform the texture into a whipped smoothie.
Also, adding too much ice will water it down and your smoothie will turn even more liquidy.
Similar to mango, pineapple is also packed with tons of great nutrients and beneficial vitamins and minerals.
It contains lots of vitamin C, manganese, and enzymes to help aid in digestion. Pineapple is also super easy to add to your pre-existing diet.
Take this smoothie for example, even if you only make it once a week, you are already adding so many great compounds to your body.
Pineapple is good for boosting your immune system and has a bunch of disease-fighting antioxidants.
The minerals can help suppress inflammation and ease pain from arthritis. It also has been known to be good in aiding recovery after surgery.
This is because it helps tissue heal and can also be a great post-workout snack for that reason.
The bottom line is, there are so many different benefits to pineapple that can improve your physical well-being.
Unless you’re allergic, adding pineapple to your meal plans is super easy. You can start by making this smoothie.
There is even an option to print the recipe if you want to have a physical copy.
Banana-
Bananas will help smooth out the flavors from the mango and pineapple and make it creamy. This specific recipe calls for a full banana, but you can alter it.
Even half of a banana will do the trick, and if you prefer a sharper taste of the mango and pineapple, adding less of the banana will help with that.
If you want to use fresh pineapple or fresh mango, then freezing the banana before adding it to your smoothie may help fix the texture.
And if you decide to go this route, we have a couple of tips to make the experience easier for you!
First, peel the banana before freezing it, it can be difficult to take off the peel once it is completely frozen.
Next, slice it into smaller pieces before freezing it as well, to make it easier for your blender to mix together. This will also prevent you from doing more work later on.
Already have a frozen banana and it still has the peel on? No problem, we have a safe method to help you out!
Make sure to grab a spoon and a butter knife. Then, cut off the stem and use the tip of the knife (pointing away from you) to break the peel into pieces.
Use the spoon to peel away the banana peel. If the banana is right out of the freezer, it may also help to hold a paper towel to prevent your hand from freezing.
You may also use the spoon to slice the banana into smaller pieces and can then put it into the blender.
It is a common fact that bananas are high in potassium, but they also have several other healthy compounds that can benefit your physical health.
Bananas have lots of fiber and manganese, which promote clear skin. Each fruit in this mango summer smoothie is great for your health and absolutely delicious all together!
Milk-
Milk is the key ingredient in this smoothie, and depending on what your blender can handle, you may need more or less than the original recipe calls for.
Because there are a lot of frozen ingredients, you may need more milk because your smoothie will be pretty thick.
If you don’t want to add more milk, you can substitute the frozen contents with fresh fruit, and that will thin out the consistency.
The last step in making this smoothie is blending it all together.
There is no particular method to the madness, but if you have an older blender it may be easier to split up the ingredients into two parts and blend them like that.
Want to experiment and try something new? We’ve come up with an ingredient to add to the smoothie!
Adding orange juice enhances the tropical flavors and adds extra vitamin C to your already very nutritious drink.
You could also completely substitute the milk for orange juice.
This would be an option for someone who prefers a sharper taste of juice and fruit in their smoothie.
However, if you like your tropical smoothies to be creamy, then we suggest sticking with milk.
Spinach-
This ingredient is completely optional, but it will add an extra boost of healthy greens to your smoothie.
Spinach is always a great choice if you want to add veggies to your smoothies because you can’t taste it once it’s blended in. Almost like it disappears!
This particular green is great to keep your body relaxed, reduce hypertension, and aid in weight loss.
Overall, spinach is packed with nutrients like iron and vitamin C.
Ice cream-
Another optional ingredient that can turn your smoothie into a milkshake. If you prefer to make a dessert with a little bit more sugar, add some ice cream!
Vanilla ice cream is recommended so as to not take away from the mango and pineapple flavors, but there are other types of ice cream that will work similarly.
Just like with the milk, there are options if you are dairy-free, and some vanilla ice creams that are made with nut milk are even sweeter.
And there you have it! A delicious and healthy (depending on how you make it) mango summer smoothie to transport you to your tropical vacation.
It’s just as good as a vacation except it won’t bring you the stress and expenses that a full trip may include!
This official recipe will include not only each ingredient but also the measurements for everything.
If you are planning to make this for several people, make sure not to overload the blender with too many ingredients.
